Killhope, The North of England Lead Mining Museum

A lead mining heritage site where the emphasis is on getting visitors involved in the action, working primitive machinery which separates lead ore from the waste. The fully-restored waterwheel is the largest in the North of England. A visitor centre houses a display on the life of miners and their families. A woodland trail explores mining through the ages. Underground tours available in the region's most extensive show mine, where the highlight of the trip is a massive underground waterwheel.
